Former Red Star Resident, 2003-2005 Mike Jabbur, will be returning to instruct our first workshop of 2010. Since his residency Mike completed his Masters at Ohio State University and is currently the Studio Manager at Santa Fe Clay in Santa Fe, NM.
In this workshop, Mike Jabbur will demonstrate his unique approaches to wheel throwing, altering, trimming, and hand-building functional pottery. Demonstrations will include throwing and altering on the potter’s wheel, trimming on chucks to reconcile the difficulty in footing highly altered forms, and making handles, knobs, and spouts that challenge conventional studio approaches. Discussions will include inspiration, design, craftsmanship, presentation, and the role of utilitarian pots in contemporary culture.

This is your opportunity to take one pottery workshop with artist , Daniel Ricardo Teran, and Deborah Schwartzkopf, who will help you better understand the potential of simple to complex hand building and drawing on functional forms. The workshop will be a free flowing giving the participants an opportunity to explore their ideas about pottery by seeing two approaches to stencils, paper patterns, and altered/ hand built forms.
For this workshop you will need the following items:
Your basic throwing tools (rib, needle tool, wire tool, throwing sponge, and any other tools normally used for your throwing practice. Along with your typical throwing tools, you will need and exacto knife, some water color paper (for making paper patterns), a sketch book and something to draw with!
